12AX7 measures great and will last a long time. The rack version has the desirable Bias knob & Three band EQ - a must for anybody who has used tube drivers. It is in fantastic condition and sounds great.
I used it on the clean channel of a Fender Hot Rod Deville. This is an original Chandler BK Butler Tube Driver Rackmount unit. It was my favorite amplifier for many years, but a new. I have had this amp in storage for a few years and decided it was time to let it go. It also performs best with clean, high-wattage amplifiers with plenty of headroom (such as the Hiwatt amps that Mr. Recently re-conditioned Butler 5 channel hybrid tube amp. The Tube Driver is well-suited to tube swaps, sounding mellower and somewhat more compressed with a 12AU7, rather than the stock 12AX7. It no longer functions correctly to change the gain.though the circuit works still-it sounds like it may be maximum drive levels. It spins all the way around and pulls out some too. Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, and Billy Gibbons have also done their part to canonize the Tube Driver's huge, dynamic overdrive and boost tones. I have an old 3 KNOB Tube Driver by BK Butler/Tube Works which has a broken potentiometer in the 'tube' / gain position. The Tube Driver is legendary mostly because of its association with David Gilmour, who has used two of them on his board since the early 1990's and his work on Pink Floyd's Division Bell. The BK Butler Tube Driver has a sordid manufacturing history, having been made at various times and various places under both the Tube Works and Chandler names, before finally being produced in original form again by Butler himself, via his company, Butler Audio. supposedly one of the first ones that bk butler made when he was working alongside chandler I AM SO EXCITED. Very high gain with built in compression. this might, however take a couple of years to dial in (as long as it took for the KPA family to come up with half a decent vibe tone). Let me be a bit sarcastic here: with the right combination of the KPA's fuzz or distortion boxes, a proper pre stomp and post stomp eq and a well chosen shaper stomp you can simulate almost any pedal there is on the market. Gilmour has 3 of these with him live and as a coinaisseur of tone he might do this because the pedal gives him something amps alone don't give him. Would like to see that in the Kemper, even though I understand that the Kemper may not be meant as an all-in-one box in the same way as Helix and other products.Ĭongrats. Helix seems to have this and even a Klon-model, which is one of the more popular types of pedal these days. Saw Gilmour in Royal Albert Hall last week, and now I'm wanting it even more.
